Tell us a little about your childhood in Virginia. What were some of your favorite interests, hobbies, or activities growing up?
I grew up in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia, where the state park was quite literally my backyard. My childhood was spent exploring forests, wading through cold mountain streams, and learning the rhythms of the natural world.
I loved being outdoors. I learned to fly-fish for native brook trout in mountain creeks, train for cross-country races on root-covered trails, camped high in the mountains for days on end, and spent countless hours climbing boulders, paddling...
Jerusalem Calls shares a deeply personal journey of faith. What inspired you to finally put your story into a book, and why did you feel now was the right time to tell it?
People are surprised to learn that I had no intention of sharing my story in Jerusalem Calls! My plan was to write about the history of the three pilgrimage feasts, placing readers in the shoes of the ancient Israelites from the exodus wilderness through Jesus’ last year of earthly ministry. After reviewing my proposal, the acquisitions editor said they loved the book concept, but wanted me to write it from the framework of...

At Schoolhouse, I helped develop the systems we needed to scale our community up to over 18k volunteer tutors and 170k learners—systems for screening, moderation, tutor training, volunteer management, etc. I discovered that I really love to design and build infrastructure to help...
1. What drew you to the Center for Creative Economy (CCE), and what excites you most about stepping into this role?
What drew me to CCE was its clear commitment to helping creative entrepreneurs move ideas from imagination to execution. I’ve been an entrepreneur myself… I owned two skate shops, and I know firsthand what it’s like to take something personal and creative and try to turn it into a sustainable business. That journey is exciting, but it’s also isolating and risky, especially when you’re expected to figure everything out on your own.
Creative people are exceptionally good at generating...
