SCRA: Fueling Innovation and Growth for South Carolina Startups
At Flywheel, we’re committed to connecting our members with the people and programs that power real progress—and this August, we’re thrilled to welcome SCRA as our guest speaker for Flywheel Café.
If you’re a founder in South Carolina, SCRA should absolutely be on your radar. The South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) is a true force behind our state’s innovation economy. From strategic funding to hands-on support, they provide high-impact resources to help early-stage companies grow and thrive.
As SCRA closes out another successful fiscal year on June 30, they’re looking ahead with a renewed mission: to support even more high-growth startups across the state.
Why Join SCRA?
Membership in SCRA is free—and the benefits are substantial:
- Coaching: SCRA’s team of experienced program staff (including former founders and investors) works closely with startups, helping them navigate the challenges of early-stage growth.
- Networking: Member Companies tap into a robust statewide network of partners, service providers, potential customers, and investors.
- Non-Dilutive Grant Funding: Eligible startups can access grants to support key milestones without giving up equity.
- Investment Opportunities: Through their affiliate SC Launch, Inc., SCRA provides qualified companies with access to equity investments—sometimes across multiple rounds.
Who Can Join?
SCRA Membership is open to innovative, for-profit startups that meet the following criteria:
- Location: Headquartered in South Carolina or have 51% or more of full-time employees based in the state.
- Industry Focus: Operate within IT, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing/Materials, or Clean Tech/Sustainability/Resilience.
- Stage: Must have a working product.
- Market Validation: Should demonstrate early traction—such as pilot programs, users, or trials.
- Scalability & Defensibility: A scalable business model with a clear competitive edge (ideally with IP protection).
Whether you’re in the early days of your venture or getting ready to raise your first round, this could be a game-changer for your startup’s trajectory.
Join us in August at Flywheel Café to meet the team behind SCRA, hear success stories from member companies, and explore how your business could benefit from their support.
